SEN Strategies
For some schools having students flagged as SEN is enough. However, you can add additional information such as general strategies to help staff engage and assist students with certain need types as well as adding personalised strategies for individual students.
You can also create links to websites and other documents that are held on your school's servers such as IEPs and ILPs

Creating Generic Strategies
Log into MINTclass with either Admin or SENco rights. For more information on SENco rights click Here:
Admin users - Click on MISC tab and then select the Strategies button
SENco users - Click on the Strategies button
You will now see a bar chart for each SEN need type available in school

Locate the Need Type that you wish to enter generic data for and click on the Edit Strategy button under the graph

You can now type directly into the pop-up or copy and paste from an existing document
Click on Save.
The information is now added to each student with that specific SEN need type.
NOTE: if you copy and paste from Word most formatting will be lost.
Student Specific Strategies
There are a number of ways that you can enter individual strategies for students. These can be typed in manually, copied and pasted from existing documentation, links to website or links to documents.
Admin users - Click on Student tab then select a year group and click on search
SENco users - Select a year group from the Year combo box and click on the search button
You can now see all students in that selected year group and that they are sorted alphabetically by surname. You can also search by student admission number.

To the right of each student locate the Edit Strategy icon which looks like a speech bubble and click on it

Now click on the SEN need type that you wish to apply the strategy to and you will notice that the text box has now become active (white).
You can now add text to specific needs by either typing or copying and pasting as before. Additionally, you can add web links by copying and pasting the full URL, this will then become a clickable link for teachers to open that web page.
Adding IEPs, ILPs and documents
Within strategies, you have the option to create a link to documents held on your school's servers. However, please note that the correct functioning of these links depends on your school's internet security settings that MINTclass has no control over.
For internet explorer:
In Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites -> add your school's MINTclass URL. For example: https://schoolacademy.mintclass.com - make sure you include your school's MINTclass suffix before mintclass.com.
The document path to open the files will need file:/// at the beginning. Make sure any backslashes are converted to forward slashes otherwise the browser won't open it.
For example, file:///U:/Curricular/SEND & Inclusion/SEND/Pen Portraits to Support SEND Students/Entry 2014/TC.PDF
For example, file:///U:/Curricular/SEND & Inclusion/SEND/Pen Portraits to Support SEND Students/Entry 2014/TC.PDF
Paste it into the box.
Now click on Save. Go to SeatPlanner, find the student, go to Strategies and try to click the link to see if it opens.
For Chrome:
You don't need to add anything to trusted sites, but you will need to download an add-on that enables local files to be opened in Chrome. The add-on we recommend is called 'LocalLinks' and can be found here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enable-local-file-links/nikfmfgobenbhmocjaaboihbeocackld?hl=en
