Managing Data Fields
NOTE - this is for SIMS only schools
Now that you can create your own icons, you have probably thought more about the data that is displayed within MINTclass. If you have found that you are missing some data that you would like to see, you now have the ability to add these fields yourself. You can add new student data fields, also known as Global Aspects, as well as Subject Specific aspects.
Student Data
Student data is any data that could be applied to all students, for example if a student is SEN, EAL or how many behaviour points a student may have.
To add a new Student Data field (global aspect), You must have an Admin account to MINTclass, Log in and click on Cortex > Configuration and then click on ‘Icon Setup’ on the left hand side.
You will now see a button on the left hand side of the screen labelled Manage Data Fields.
When you click on this button you will see a new pop up which shows you all of the data that we can view from your school system.
The ones that are already available in MINTclass are black and the ones that are currently not used by your school are greyed out.
To use a data field that is not currently active you simply need to click on the tick box.
Once active they are available for you to use as Icons or for comparison icons as described in the Creating your own icons.
School Specific Global Fields
Apart from the core data that we receive from your schools SIMS you can also select any other data fields as long as they are aspects. For example you may wish to show the Reading or Maths KS2 levels for all students.
Click on the Manage Data Fields button then select the Student Assessment Data tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen and you will see a text box - Add new assessment item
Type the name that you wish to display - for example KS2 Maths, KS2 Reading etc and click on Add New Data Item.
This will then create a new row on the Global Aspect Mapping screen.
Subject Specific Data Fields
These can be activated in the same way but when you click on the Manage Data Fields button you will also need to then select the Student Subject Assessment Data tab.
As you can see we currently have Current and Target grades for each student. You may want to add aspirational targets for KS4 and KS5.
Click on the Add New Assessment Data Item field and type the name of the new data item and click Add New Data Item (please wait until you see Saved at the top right of the pop up).
You can now see the new data field. Click on Y7, Y8 and maybe Y9 (If your school has moved Y9 students to KS4).
When you click on Cortex > Configuraion > Apsect Mapping you will now see the new column.
Removing Data Fields
There may be the need to remove existing data fields. Some fields cannot be removed but they can be hidden and this will stop us storing the data.
The items in the Core Student Data tab are the ones that you can hide. To do this simply click on the Tick to remove it.
Data items on the Student Assessment Data and the Student Subject Assessment Data tabs can be removed by clicking on the Remove button to the right of each data item.
Please note: that if you remove any data items from the Student Assessment Data and the Student Subject Assessment Data tabs you will need to re-create them but if you give them the same title as before you will not need to re-map as MINTclass will remember them.
Note: You cannot delete a data item that is in use as an icon.
