Detentions Set up
You will need to log in as an Admin user to do the Detentions Set-up.

Click on Detentions at the top of the screen.

Attend 1

On the left-hand side of the screen click on Admin and you will see the Admin Overview page.

Attend 1

Using the new Sub Menu on the left-hand side of the screen select Settings

Attend 1

Here you will see a number of school settings which control things such as how many detentions a student can be assigned to in one day, the number of days notification a parent needs for a detention and the default attendance code used.

If there is a setting which you think is needed please email support@mintclass.com with your idea ensuring that the subject line of the email says "Detentions Module" to ensure that it goes to the correct people.

Detention Types

On the left-hand side of the screen select Types.

Attend 1

This is where you can create the types of detention that you need to use within school simply click on add new type on the top right hand corner of the screen and type in a unique code for this for example ISO could be the code for Isolation you then need to add a description. Finally, click Save Detention Type.

Most importantly on here is the Requires Approval tick box. If this tick box is ticked it means the teacher cannot allocate a detention for that type without it being approved by a member of SLT or somebody with Admin access.

You can edit any of these types at any time simply find the code that you wish to make changes to and click the edit button to the right.  You will then see a screen very similar to the one we've just used for adding a new type.  Make the appropriate changes click save and that detention type is ready to use.

Detention Reasons
On the left-hand side of the screen click on reasons

Attend 1

As with types, you may need a selection of reasons.  These may already exist in your school's MIS.  If you use SIMS we can pull these over for you.

Adding Reasons
Click on Add New Reason in the top right-hand corner of the screen type a code and description then click on Save Detention Reason.

Attend 1

Again as with the types, you can amend any of the reasons that are currently in your system.  Simply find the detention reason that you wish to make a change to and edit it by clicking on the edit button on the right-hand side of the screen remembering to save your changes as appropriate.

Attendance codes
Click on attendance codes on the left.

 Attend 1

If you wish to record if a student attends a detention or not you will need to add some attendance codes

Adding an attendance code works the same as it does for Detention types and reasons.

Click add new attendance type in the top right-hand corner of the screen and enter a code and a description and then select a meaning from the drop-down list. Obviously, as with all the other parts of the system, you can edit any of these codes when you need to but do remember changing a code that's already been used may corrupt any records stored against that code.
